There are various manufacturing procedures, a few of which we use daily. You might not realize but some of these processes are quite essential to produce the products that we use daily. One of such processes is dip moulding.
Dip moulding is a process used to create a layer of plastic, usually PVC, to wrap a metal object. The metal can be steel, iron, aluminum or brass and this is done to reduce the reaction of metal to the outside environment.
For example, when a metal like iron is covered by PVC, it will not react with moisture in the air and form rust. Covering these metals with PVC helps in improving the metal’s characteristics as well.
A dip moulding manufacturer will follow all the procedures to create a perfect mould for metal. It is a step-by-step process. To dip mold an object, the mold is first heated and then submerged into a solution of PVC.
After a while, the mold is removed, drained and kept aside to dry. Depending on what kind of process is used and the kind of outcome required, the mold may be then cured. After the mold has finished drying or curing, the PVC shall be removed.
It needs to be noted that the dip moulding manufacturer will require several cycles of this submersion process to create a perfect mold. In case the PVC shell turns out thin for the metal, the mold has to be again submerged until we get the desired thickness.
